Antenatal care involves skilled healthcare professionals monitoring the mother and her unborn child for potential pregnancy-related issues. Doctors offer advice, prenatal care recommendations, and scheduled appointments, with the WHO recommending at least four prenatal exams for pregnant women.
Prenatal Instructions
Abnormal symptoms that should prompt a doctor's visit
- Vaginal bleeding
- Bloody mucus, watery discharge (clear, urine-like fluid from the vagina)
- Persistent abdominal pain
- Reduced fetal movement (<10 times per day)
- Painful urination, back pain, and high fever
- Severe headaches, blurred vision, swelling on the face, hands, and feet
Close-to-term symptoms requiring immediate medical attention
- Decreased fetal movement
- Vaginal Bleeding
- Amniotic fluid, resembling urine, leak
- Labor pain every 15 minutes, increasing to every 3 to 5 minutes or more frequent, lasting 30-45 seconds (true labor).
How to prepare yourself for childbirth
- Arrive at the hospital 3 hours before the delivery. Refrain from eating or drinking at least 8 hours before the anticipated delivery time (in case of a prescheduled C-section delivery).
- Bring your pregnancy medical report and lab tests (if you have had prenatal exams at another hospital).
- Keep your fingernails short. Remove the nail polish on your fingers and toes.
- Do not bring any jewelry or valuables to the hospital.
- Remove accessories such as rings or bracelets before the delivery.
What you should bring to the hospital
- One going-home outfit
- Nursing bras
- Underwear with a waistline above or below the C-section incision line.
What the hospital prepares for you
- A baby’s onesie, and blanket
- A gift set including shampoo, soap, and a cooler bag.
Documents Required for Thai Birth Certificate
- A copy of Thai ID card of both parents (or passport for foreigners)
- A copy of the Thai household registration of both parents
- The Thai household registration for the addition of the baby's name
- A copy of the Thai marriage certificate (if parents do not register their marriage, the father must fill out a consent form allowing the child to use his surname.)
