MedPark promotes the concept of
a safe and environmentally friendly building,
emphasizing a green building standard
with its LEED Gold certification.
Bangkok – Thursday, July 6, 2023, Dr. Pongpat Patanavanich, Managing Director of MedPark Hospital, was invited as one of the five honored guest speakers to share their views on the design and construction of environmentally harmonious, eco-friendly buildings that use less energy and natural resources, organized by USGBC and GBCI, on the occasion MedPark Hospital was awarded the 2021 LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Gold certification at the Grand Sindhorn Hall, Sindhorn Kempinski Hotel Bangkok.
During the panel discussion under the “Building Design, Construction, and Performance Monitoring for Higher Efficiency towards NET ZERO” session, Dr. Pongpat Patanavanich elaborated on the innovative design and construction concept of MedPark Hospital.
With over 30 years of experience in the healthcare sector, Dr. Pongpat has had opportunities to provide input on the design of more than ten hospital buildings. Before MedPark Hospital was designed and constructed, he visited many leading hospitals in the US, Europe, and Asia to experience firsthand their designs. With the primary aim to provide effective treatment for high acuity and complex diseases, the design and construction of MedPark Hospital must confer a friendly and conducive environment to ensure the safety of its clients.
Since 30 percent of the inpatient rooms in MedPark Hospital are ICU rooms, interior air quality is paramount. The design and construction of the hospital are such that outside fresh air is filtered, cooled, and dehumidified before insufflating into the building to maintain a higher, positive interior air pressure relative to the building exterior, which can effectively hold or push out PM 2.5 particulate matters from entering the building, preventing the build-up of germs, and enabling the care of infectious disease patients without jeopardizing other patients. In addition, the superior air quality and cleanliness of the building bestow health benefits to every hospital personnel, providing a haven, especially during the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic when the hospital opened its door.

At the end of the seminar, the representatives of the Green Business Certification Institute Pvt. Ltd. formally presented the LEED certificates to the representatives of LEED Platinum-, Gold-, and Silver-certified companies during the years 2020 – 2023; and they took a commemorative photo with representatives of companies that received LEED awards and other seminar attendees.
